on rivers in the lake area |

There are several prime canoe floating areas on the Upper and Lower Black River, whether you want to go float fishing or just want to float for the fun of it.
And theres more to do than float. Floating is a time-honored way to spend a day in nature. You can fish for smallmouth bass and goggle-eye in the upper river. Walleye are the special attraction for the lower river. But a lot of floaters dont even take a pole. They just float, swim, picnic and enjoy life. People who rent canoes, shuttle cars, furnish river information, advice and otherwise help, include the following Clearwater Lake Association supporters: Black River: Kempers Hideaway, 573-223-7324; http://www.kempersresort.com Upper Black River: Jeffs Canoe Rental, 573-598-4555; St. Francis River: http://www.mostateparks.com/baker/canoe.htm Sam Baker State Park Lodge, summer 573-856-4223; winter 573-856-4411. Other providers are available in the area too. If you are wondering what a float trip is all about, it is basically canoeing, but on an Ozark river you do more floating than paddling. Some folks bring along a feast to enjoy on a gravel bar. . |
